 Caps women release 2008 schedule
January 16, 2008Vancouver Whitecaps FC, in conjunction with the United Soccer Leagues (USL), announced today the 2008 USL W-League regular season schedule.The Whitecaps will kick off their season at Swangard Stadium against the Ventura County Fusion on Saturday, May 17, and wrap up the regular season at home against Real Colorado Cougars on Sunday, July 13. The Whitecaps play in the seven-team Western Conference and will face each team twice for a total of 12 regular season games. Joining Ventura County as expansion sides in 2008 will be two more teams from Southern California, the Pali Blues who are based out of Santa Monica, and the Los Angeles Legends. The women will play all six home matches on the weekend; one tilt on Friday, two games on Saturday and the final three home matches will be played on Sunday afternoon. Included in the home matches are four men’s and women’s doubleheaders: Friday, May 23; Saturday, June 7; Sunday, June 22 and Sunday, July 13. The playoffs will begin the weekend following the Whitecaps final home match. The Western Conference regular season champion will play host to the second-place finisher in the conference championship match. The winner advances to the W-League Championship Tournament, which will be held August 1 and 3. The W-League Championship host is determined via a bid process, with the host team receiving a bye to the W-League semifinals on August 1. Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2008 season tickets are on sale now.
