![]() Whitecaps confirm 2010 pre-season tripThe Whitecaps played MLS club Seattle Sounders FC in pre-season nearly a year ago. February 4, 2010Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today the details of their 2010 pre-season trip. On February 9, the Whitecaps men's team will head south to Casa Grande, Arizona, to stay at the state-of-the-art Grande Sports World facility, which is located between Phoenix and Tucson. During their two-week stay, the 'Caps will play three pre-season training matches against clubs from Major League Soccer (MLS). "Last year, we left Vancouver for two weeks and found the experience extremely valuable in our preparation for the start of a new season," said Whitecaps men's team head coach Teitur Thordarson. "This trip is a fantastic opportunity for the players to bond, while at the same time, they will face some high-level competition." On February 11, Vancouver will battle Interstate 5 rivals Seattle Sounders FC at Grande Sports World. Four days later, on February 15, the Whitecaps will play Chicago Fire at Arizona State University Soccer Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. The 'Caps will then conclude their stay at Grande Sports World with a match against 2009 MLS Cup champions Real Salt Lake on February 20. Preseason Training Match Schedule
The Whitecaps are in the fourth week of their preseason training program. Following the trip to Arizona, the players will have a week off before training camp re-opens on Monday, March 1, at the Whitecaps Training Centre on the campus of Simon Fraser University. Additional pre-season matches will be announced shortly. Whitecaps 2010 season tickets are now on sale. Season tickets include all men’s and women's team regular season and playoff home matches at Swangard Stadium, Nutrilite Canadian Championship home matches against Toronto FC and Montreal Impact, as well as priority listing for Vancouver MLS 2011 in BC Place. ABOUT THE NASL The North American Soccer League (NASL) was established in November 2009 and is comprised of the following active teams: Carolina RailHawks, Crystal Palace Baltimore, Miami FC, Minnesota (name to be determined), Montreal Impact, Rochester Rhinos, AC St. Louis, FC Tampa Bay, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. For the 2010 season, the NASL's nine teams, together with three teams (Austin Aztex, Portland Timbers, and Puerto Rico Islanders) from the United Soccer Leagues, will play in a second division league established and administered by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). The league will feature two conferences (NASL and USL) of six teams each, with three NASL teams (Minnesota, Rochester, and Tampa Bay) playing in the USL Conference. In 2011, the NASL will be joined by teams in Atlanta and certain other cities to be named at a later date. The NASL and its member teams are committed to building on their long tradition of providing a high level of soccer to fans across the United States and Canada in 2010 and beyond.
