Canada's women's national team have made a superb start to their CONCACAF Women's Olympic qualifying campaign after a 6-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday.

Even Pellerud's side saw six different goalscorers get on the scoresheet in their opening Group B contest in Juarez, Mexico, with four of those players coming from the Vancouver Whitecaps women's team. Melissa Tancredi, Jonelle Filigno and Kara Lang all struck in the first half before Randee Hermus, Jodi-Ann Robinson and Christine Sinclair added three more goals after the break.

Canada had full command of the match from the start, with Tancredi breaking the deadlock after just 10 minutes, as she converted a Rhian Wilkinson cross in the Trinidad & Tobago box.

Wilkinson then created another Canadian goal on 21 minutes, as her corner was headed on by Tancredi to Filigno. The teenager was on the goal-line to score her first senior international goal for Canada.

It became 3-0 six minutes before the break, as Sinclair's shot in a melee deflected back to Lang, who had space and time to drive the ball home for a three-goal halftime lead.

Pellerud's side picked up where they left off and made it 4-0 on the hour mark, as Hermus headed home Candace Chapman's long free kick. Nine minutes later, substitute Robinson also found the back of the Trinidad & Tobago net with a header for Canada's fifth goal.

Sinclair capped an emphatic Canadian performance with her 86th international goal in the dying stages. The Burnaby, BC, native controlled the ball with her chest before knocking it home for 6-0.

In recording a clean sheet in the Canadian goal on Wednesday, goalkeeper Erin McLeod moved past Nicci Wright for second in all-time senior appearances by a Canadian international keeper with 38 caps.

Pellerud's squad will now prepare for their final Group B match against Costa Rica on Sunday, April 6. Kickoff is at 11am Pacific Daylight Time.

All of Canada’s matches in the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic qualifying tournament will be webcast live on CBCsports.ca. The team's two Group B games and the two tournament semifinals will also be broadcast on GOL TV (Shaw Cable channel 151 in the Greater Vancouver region).
