RUSTAD IN W-LEAGUE TEAM OF THE WEEK

June 14, 2007 - United Soccer Leagues announced the W-League Team of the Week and Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Clare Rustad has been named to the team, while Cocoa Expos goalkeeper Katie Fraine was named the Player of the Week.

Rustad, a second half sub in the Whitecaps 2-2 draw with San Diego Sunwaves, was instrumental in setting up Holly Gault’s very late equalizer. The Whitecaps draw last Sunday extended Vancouver’s home undefeated streak to 31 games.

As a freshman at the University of Florida last season, Katie Fraine only got one start for the Gators. Over the past weekend, the Cocoa Expos goalkeeper led her side to a third consecutive shutout to open the season with a scoreless draw against Charlotte Lady Eagles and a 4-0 win over Hampton Roads Piranhas – both perennial contenders.

The Lady Eagles, semifinalists of a year ago, came to Cocoa on Thursday and were unable to get anything past the Expos, as Fraine made 10 saves in the match. The shutout avenged a 6-1 aggregate scoreline in favor of Charlotte last season in the two games between the two clubs.

Two nights later against the always dangerous Piranhas, who posted a 4-0 win in Bradenton on Thursday, Fraine made another six saves to blank the visitors for her third shutout of the season and keep Cocoa as the lone unbeaten team in the Atlantic Division of the W-League Central Conference.
