CAPS WIN 3-1 OVER REAL COLORADO
June 25, 2007 - Real Colorado Cougars - 1
Vancouver Whitecaps – 3
Shea Stadium, Denver, CO
Vancouver Whitecaps women picked up their third straight win, as they defeated Real Colorado Cougars 3-1 Monday night in Denver. After a lightning delay of an hour and a half, striker Tiffeny Milbrett continued her torrid scoring pace, with goals on either side of halftime. Both were set up by penetrating passes by Ella Masar who sent Milbrett in on goal at minutes 36 and 49. The veteran US international now has six goals and four assists in four games since rejoining the team two weeks ago.
Midfielder Holly Gault added Vancouver's third goal at 58 minutes, assisted by Jodi-Ann Robinson, before Real closed out the scoring with a 73rd minute strike by Jessie Richardson.
Vancouver's record improves to 4-1-1 as they move back into second place in the Western Conference, level on points with Seattle with 13 points, but with two games in hand. The San Diego Sunwaves hold top spot in the West with 16 points, but have played three more games than Vancouver.
The Whitecaps next game is against the Mile High Edge on Wednesday, in the city of Golden just outside Denver. They then face a rematch with the Cougars on Saturday, June 30 before finally returning home to play Mile High on Sunday, July 8 at Chilliwack's Exhibition Field.
Scoring Summary:
36' Vancouver 1-0 Tiffeny Milbrett (Ella Masar)
A nice give-and-go with Masar at to the top of area sent Milbrett in on goal and she fired it past the keeper.
49' Vancouver 2-0 Tiffeny Milbrett (Ella Masar)
Another great ball from Masar sent Milbrett in alone, and she beat the keeper with a left-footer into the bottom right corner. It was Milbrett's sixth goal in just four games.
58' Vancouver 3-0 Holly Gault (Jodi-Ann Robinson)
Gault scored her third goal of the season on the feed from Robinson.
73' Colorado 3-1 Jessie Richardson (Megan Flanagan)
A minute after goalkeeper Sian Bagshawe made a brilliant save on a nearly identical play, Colorado got it right as Flanagan on the right sent a cross to Richardson at the far post and she headed it in.
