MILE HIGH EDGE AWAY PREVIEW

June 26, 2007 - Vancouver Whitecaps FC women continue their Colorado road trip when they visit Mile High Edge on Wednesday evening.

Denver Kickers Stadium in the Jefferson County city of Golden will be the venue for the third match of the Whitecaps four-game road stint in the US state, with a second meeting against Real Colorado Cougars still to come for Vancouver on Saturday. The Whitecaps have enjoyed a successful trip so far, having defeated Fort Collins Force 4-1 last Friday before winning their first meeting with Real Colorado 3-1 on Monday. Tiffeny Milbrett has been highly influential with four goals in both games.

After getting the road trip off to a great start, Bob Birarda’s side now prepare to face a Mile High squad who are coming off a rough away trip to Southern California this past weekend. Danny Sanchez’s team ended up on the wrong end of two results to W-League Western Conference leaders San Diego Sunwaves, with the Edge losing 3-1 on Friday before suffering a heavier 4-0 defeat on Sunday. It leaves the Arvada, Colorado-based club sitting at the bottom of the standings, with just two victories recorded so far. One of those two wins came at home last month when they defeated Seattle Crossfire Sounders 2-0, and Sanchez is sure to want three more points on Wednesday to restore team confidence.

Birarda admits the Edge can be a tricky side to figure out. “Mile High is an interesting team,” he told whitecapsfc.com. “They are a very well organized and coached group of players, but they seem to put in some uneven performances. Some days, they look like they can beat anybody, and I’m sure on the right days, they can. Other days, they don’t look as good, so it depends on how it might go.”

With the Mile High game being the Whitecaps third contest in six days, Birarda is concerned that fatigue may be a factor against Sanchez’s side. “Recovery is a part of this trip because the games are so squeezed together,” he said.

Following Wednesday’s game, Vancouver and Mile High will meet one more time in the regular season, as Exhibition Field in Chilliwack will host the Whitecaps and the Edge on July 8.
