THREE WHITECAPS IN TEAM OF THE WEEK

June 26, 2007 - Three Vancouver Whitecaps FC players have been named in the latest USL-1 Team of the Week.

Goalkeeper Richard Goddard, defender Diaz Kambere, and midfielder Tony Donatelli all earned places in the weekly all-star XI after their performances at Miami FC and Puerto Rico Islanders this past weekend.

Goddard received the nod as the week’s top goalkeeper after making 10 saves and recording two clean sheets in the Whitecaps 1-0 win over Miami on Friday and goalless draw at Puerto Rico on Sunday. Youngster Kambere was also named for his performance against the Islanders, while Donatelli took a midfield honour after setting up Eddy Sebrango’s winning goal in Florida.

The trio join defenders Jay Needham from Puerto Rico and David Stokes from Carolina RailHawks in the team. California Victory’s Hugo Casillas, Minnesota Thunder’s Brian Farber, Montreal Impact’s Leonardo Di Lorenzo, and Portland Timbers’ Neil Dombrowski join Donatelli in a five-man midfield selection.

Charleston Battery’s Aaron King and Montreal Impact’s Alen Marcina were the two forwards selected for the weekly squad by the USL. Marcina earned Player of the Week honours after helping the Impact to a draw and win on the road over the weekend.
