Vancouver Whitecaps FC women continued to sweep aside all opposition on their Colorado road trip, as they downed Mile High Edge 2-1 Wednesday night at the Denver Kickers Stadium in Golden, just outside of Denver.

For the third straight game, it was a two-goal performance by Tiffeny Milbrett that paced the Vancouver attack, as the veteran striker netted her team-leading seventh and eighth goals of the season.

After a cautious and evenly played first half, the Whitecaps brought on speedy forward Ella Masar and winger Jodi-Ann Robinson during the halftime interval, and that injection of pace proved too much for the Edge.

Just three minutes into the second half, Masar sent a pass over the top of the Mile High defence, putting Milbrett in alone to score. Then in the 71st minute, Masar was taken down in the Edge box for a penalty kick, which Milbrett converted to make it 2-0.

The home team pulled a goal back in injury time, as Kira Sharp capitalized on a Whitecaps defensive lapse, ruining the shutout bid for Vancouver goalkeeper Cori Alexander.

This was Vancouver's fourth win in a row, as they move into first place in the W-League Western Conference with a record of 5-1-1 for 16 points, even with the San Diego Sunwaves, but with two games in hand on their California-based rivals.

The Whitecaps have one more game on their Colorado trip - a rematch on Saturday with Real Colorado Cougars, who they defeated 3-1 Monday night. The Whitecaps have never lost in the state of Colorado, with a record of 19-0-2, going back seven years. Vancouver's next home game is Sunday, July 8, at Chilliwack's Exhibition Field against Mile High.
