MILBRETT EARNS W-LEAGUE HONOURS

July 31, 2007 - Vancouver Whitecaps striker Tiffeny Milbrett has been named to the 2007 W-League All-League Team.

The former USA international earned the end-of-season accolade following votes cast by W-League coaches and general managers.

Milbrett was one of three forwards to be voted in the league’s all-star XI after claiming 11 goals and six assists in 10 Western Conference games this season. She finished third in points (28), third in goals and fifth in assists as a result. Joining Milbrett in a All-League attack were Richmond Kickers Destiny’s Jen Parsons and Jersey Sky Blue’s Lara Dickenmann.

Former Canadian international Kelly Parker was one of four midfielders to be honoured. The Ottawa Fury player was joined by Jersey Sky Blue’s Brazilian star Formiga, Washington Freedom’s Lori Lindsay, and Charlotte Lady Eagles veteran Tina Murphy. Parker is also one of three nominees for this season’s W-League Most Valuable Player award, which will be announced on Saturday.

Lisa Gomez from San Diego Sunwaves was one of three defenders chosen, with Francesca DeCristoforo of Long Island Rough Riders and Jaclyn Raveia of Richmond Kickers Destiny the other two players to be honoured. W-League Goalkeeper of the Year Melanie Wilson from Atlanta Silverbacks completed the All-League Team line-up.

San Diego head coach Elio Bello will learn on Thursday if he has been chosen as W-League Coach of the Year after leading the expansion Sunwaves to a first-place finish in the Western Conference regular season.

Milbrett was not the only Whitecaps player to receive end-of-season honours, as she joined defender Jill Oakes and midfielder Sophie Schmidt in being named to the Western Conference All-Conference Team on Friday.
