On April 14, 2011, Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced that they will host storied English Premier League (EPL) side Manchester City FC at Bell Pitch at Empire Field. The international friendly match will take place on Monday, July 18, 2011 with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff, and is part of Major League Soccer’s 2011 World Football Challenge.

The Blues are managed by former Italian international Roberto Mancini, and features a roster stocked with world-class players. Midfielders Patrick Vieira and David Silva are among the most accomplished players on the team, having won the FIFA World Cup with France and Spain respectively.
