Whitecaps re-call four

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announce that defender Luca Bellisomo, midfielders Admir Salihovic and Mason Webb, and forward Nick Webb have been re-called to the Whitecaps senior men’s team.

Meanwhile, defender/midfielder Jeff Clarke and defender Geordie Lyall have been re-assigned to the Whitecaps FC Residency team of the USL Premier Development League (PDL) for a brief conditioning stint.

The four returnees to the Whitecaps first team were recently re-assigned to the Residency team for an away match with the Tacoma Tide on June 7. All four started the match, in which the ‘Caps lost 4-0.

Luca Bellisomo, born in Johannesburg, South Africa, but raised in Vancouver, BC, is in his first year with the Whitecaps after spending four years at Burnaby’s Simon Fraser University. The six-foot-one defender is a former captain of the Whitecaps reserve team and has yet to see action with the first team thus far.

Admir Salihovic was acquired by the Whitecaps on May 12 of this year and has since made one regular season appearance for the club in a 0-0 draw with the Montreal Impact on May 19, 2008. The midfielder, who was born in Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina, calls Burnaby, BC, home.

Mason and Nick Webb, natives of Bellingham, Washington, are currently in their first seasons with the club after completing their collegiate careers at Oregon State University. Mason has played 23 minutes for Vancouver in two appearances, while Nick has accumulated 40 minutes in four appearances with the USL First Division side.

Jeff Clarke and Geordie Lyall, both recovering from injury, have been re-assigned to the Residency team in hopes of regaining match fitness and form.

Clarke, an eight-year veteran with the Whitecaps, has appeared in two games this season for 180 minutes. Lyall, hampered with injuries all season, has yet to appear with the first team in 2008.
