Clarke and Moose earn weekly honours
Two Vancouver Whitecaps players have been selected to the final USL First Division Team of the Week for the 2008 season.
Captain Jeff Clarke and winger Justin Moose were both selected to the Week 23 team following their influential performances in Saturday's historical 3-2 win at Interstate 5 rivals Seattle Sounders.
This was Clarke's third selection to the weekly all-star XI, having made the team in Weeks 13 and 21. He earned a place this week after scoring the winning goal versus the Sounders, as the Whitecaps re-claimed the fan-based Cascadia Cup in their final regular season game in Washington State.
The centre back is joined by Moose, who makes his first appearance in the USL-1 Team of the Week after recording a goal and an assist in Seattle. Though it came late in the season, Moose's goal was his first for the club since joining The Blue & White from Major League Soccer side DC United on April 15.
The league's final weekly selection of the year includes Puerto Rico Islanders goalkeeper Justin Myers, as he earned himself a selection after making six saves in a goalless draw versus the Impact in Montreal. Myers was deputizing for Islanders number one Bill Gaudette at Saputo Stadium.
Clarke, meanwhile, was joined by three more defenders in Walter Ramirez from Miami FC Blues, Cristian Arrieta from Puerto Rico, and Frankie Sanfilippo from Carolina RailHawks. In midfield, Moose was joined by Carolina's Martin Nunez and Minnesota Thunder's Ricardo Sanchez.
The three forwards that were picked included Player of the Week Hamed Diallo. The former Rochester Rhinos striker earned the honour after his two-goal performance in Carolina's 2-1 victory at Southern Derby rivals Charleston Battery. Minnesota's Brian Cvilikas and former Whitecaps striker Jason McLaughlin from Atlanta Silverbacks were also chosen by the league this week.
