Vancouver Whitecaps striker Marlon James has been named USL First Division Player of the Week for Week Four.
The Saint Vincent and the Grenadines international earned the league's top weekly accolade after scoring a hat-trick on his first competitive start for the Blue and White, as they defeated Minnesota Thunder 3-2 on Saturday. His first two goals were well-taken efforts in open play, while his third goal came from the penalty spot in the last minute at the National Sports Center Stadium in Blaine, Minnesota.
James was joined by Puerto Rico Islanders striker Kendall Jagdeosingh and Rochester Rhinos forward Taiwo Atieno as the three forwards to be selected in the USL-1 Team of the Week for Week Four. The Portland Timbers pair of Brian Farber and Ryan Pore were also selected in the weekly all-star team's midfield, along with Thunder's Mexican playmaker Ricardo Sanchez and Puerto Rico's Sandy Gbandi.
Three defenders in Rochester's Kenney Bertz, Charleston Battery's Matt Bobo, and Carolina RailHawks' John Gilkerson were also selected, as was Portland's on-loan goalkeeper Chris Seitz following his two clean sheets for the Timbers over the weekend.
Another Whitecaps striker to earn a USL weekly accolade is youngster Dever Orgill. The Jamaican youth international earned a spot in the latest PDL Team of the Week after scoring both goals in the Whitecaps Residency's season-opening 2-2 draw versus BC rivals Victoria Highlanders last Sunday.
