- THE BUZZ: The Vancouver Whitecaps will host the first-place Portland Timbers Thursday after winning a two-game, total goals first round series 1-0 over the Carolina RailHawks on Sunday.

- SCORELESS TRIUMPH:

The Whitecaps (7th) and RailHawks (2nd) went scoreless in Sunday's second leg at Cary, N.C. Rookie Randy Edwini-Bonsu's Thursday home goal was all Vancouver needed.

- THOR THOUGHTS: "We knew that when we were going to play Carolina they would be very tough games," said Caps' head coach Teitur Thordarson. "We did the job at home and they're very tactical here."
