Super Y Finals - Day One Report


Coastal WFC and Mountain WFC enjoyed a successful first day at the USL Super Y-League North American Finals, as all 17 British Columbia-based teams took to the pitch in Tampa, Florida, on Friday.

13 victories were claimed by Vancouver Whitecaps FC and BC Soccer 'Professional Development Partner' teams on the first day, with Coquitlam Metro-Ford, Thompson-Okanagan, and West Coast Capitals all making their debuts at the Finals.

The largest BC contingent in Coastal made a great start to tournament. The club's U-13 Girls claimed a goalless draw with New Jersey's Parsippany SC, while the U-13 Boys defeated another New Jersey club in Match Fit Chelsea Academy 2-0. Friday saw double duty for Coastal's U-14 Girls, with their first match ending in a 1-0 victory over Michigan's Kalamazoo Kingdom, while their second game ended in a 1-0 win over TSF Academy. The U-16 Girls defeated Canadian opposition in the form of Ottawa Fury, while the highlight of the day was the U-16 Boys coming from two goals down to defeat Florida's HC United 3-2. Led by former Whitecaps striker Jason Jordan, the U-16 Boys scored three second-half goals to claim the win. Whitecaps Residency striker Caleb Clarke scored Coastal's equalizer, while Isaac Jacobson struck the match winner.

Mountain also enjoyed a good start to proceedings. The U-13 Boys defeated Indiana's Fort Wayne Fever 4-0, while the U-15 Boys hammered Brooklyn Knights 6-1, with Gilbert Kyne scoring a hat-trick. The U-15 Girls played to a goalless draw versus Alliance Academy, while the U-16 Boys claimed a 2-1 win over New Jersey Rangers.

Vancouver Island's West Coast Capitals debuted with the U-14 Girls falling 2-1 to MPS Renegades from Massachusetts, while the U-15 Girls defeated Florida's West Pines United 2-1. The U-16 Girls also claimed victory in their first match, as they edged South Jersey Banshees 1-0.

Coquitlam Metro-Ford had a mixed day with their two teams in Florida. The U-13 Girls suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat to Washington Freedom, while the U-14 Boys claimed a 1-0 win over Ironbound SC from Newark, New Jersey.

Surrey WFC's U-16 Girls started their tournament in positive fashion with a 2-1 victory over Washington Freedom. Alex Stasiuk and Shelby Beck scored Surrey's goals at the Land O’Lakes Soccer Complex in Land O’Lakes, Florida.

Abbotsford Mariners' U-15 Boys also made a winning start on Friday after they defeated New Jersey Stallions 2-0.

Thompson-Okanagan's U-14 Boys, meanwhile, had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Long Island Rough Riders.
