Vancouver Whitecaps Prospects Women ran their record to a perfect 9W-0L-0D in the Pacific Coast Soccer League after a 3-0 away win to Chilliwack FC at Chilliwack's Exhibition Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Abigail Raymer scored twice, while Jenna Richardson added a third goal for the Prospects. Goalkeeper Ally Williamson recorded her seventh clean sheet of the season.
Vancouver carried play for most of the match. Jaclyn Sawicki has the best of the early chances with a shot from close range that was blocked by Chilliwack goalkeeper Chantelle Biagiani.
The home side caused a scare just before the half-hour mark, as Dani Snook blocked an attempted clearance by Williamson. However, the ball bounced high with a favourable spin, allowing Williamson to recover and claim possession before Snook could get a finishing touch.
On 35 minutes, Richardson managed to hit the woodwork three times in a matter of seconds. Her header from a corner kick came back off the near post, then she collected the ball and hooked it on goal, only to see it skip twice off the top of the crossbar before going out of play.
The Whitecaps opened scoring on 41 minutes. Sawicki played it inside to Raymer at the top of the box, and she twisted and turned before getting it on her left foot to fire into the bottom corner of the Chilliwack goal.
Kristen Vanderpaw almost put the home team level minutes after, but her sharp-angle shot from the left was blocked at the near post by Williamson, then cleared away from in front of the 'Caps goal. Vancouver led 1-0 at the break.
The Whitecaps dominated the second half, and doubled their lead on 57 minutes. A half-cleared ball from a corner kick fell to Raymer at the top of the Chilliwack box, and while her first shot was blocked by a defender, she charged in to fire the rebound home from 14 yards. It was her second of the match and team-leading 11th of the season.
On 74 minutes, Jenna Di Nunzio played it ahead to Richardson breaking into the box, and she calmly slotted it into the far corner for her ninth goal of the season and a 3-0 Whitecaps lead.
Di Nunzio had chances to add to the lead in the late stages, but Biagiani came up with three big saves, including an acrobatic one-hander to tip a curling shot wide of the top corner.
The Whitecaps remain in top spot in the PCSL Premier Division standings, with a three point lead and a game in hand over the 8W-2L-0D Victoria Highlanders FC. Chillwack drop to 3W-3L-0D.
The next Prospects league match is away to TSS Academy at Vancouver College Turf on Tuesday night. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. PT.
