Martin Nash ready for new role with Rogers Sportsnet
As our Vancouver Whitecaps FC get ready to take on Philadelphia Union this Saturday afternoon, there will be a familiar voice you will be hearing in the broadcast booth.
Former Whitecaps FC captain Martin Nash will be making his own debut as a colour analyst on Rogers Sportsnet alongside play-by-play man Craig MacEwen at PPL Park in Chester, Pennsylvania.
In a bid to learn more about his now role in soccer broadcasting, Nash was recently invited by Rogers Sportsnet to join John Garrett and John Shorthouse in the Vancouver Canucks broadcast booth to look how the veterans do their job covering NHL hockey games. The former playmaker found the experience very helpful, with Nash looking forward to giving Whitecaps FC fans his insight into what is happening during Vancouver's Major League Soccer matches.
A long-time Whitecaps FC player until his retirement at the end of last season, Nash brings a vast amount of professional soccer experience to his new role. The former Canadian international won four United Soccer Leagues First Division (USL-1) championship titles and was selected as a USL-1 All-League player five times. Nash also played professionally in England and made 38 international appearances for Canada during his 13-year playing career. Nash's vast experience as a player will help viewers get insightful analysis into what is happening on the pitch during Whitecaps FC games.
We wish Martin and Craig the best of luck in the broadcast booth on Saturday, and throughout the 2011 season.
