Manchester City FC win first English FA Cup title since 1969
Vancouver Whitecaps FC congratulate Manchester City FC on winning their first English FA Cup title since 1969 following a 1-0 final win over English Premier League (EPL) rivals Stoke City FC at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
Yaya Toure's second-half strike was enough to give City their first piece of silverware in 35 years and cap a fine week for Roberto Mancini's side. On Tuesday night, City earned qualification to the UEFA Champions League for the first time in club history after a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur FC in the EPL. The UEFA Champions League is the most lucrative club competition in world soccer.
"Congratulations to Manchester City on winning the 130th FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium in London, England, today," said Whitecaps FC chief executive officer Paul Barber. "It's City's first major trophy win since 1976 and we are delighted that this success, together with their first-ever qualification for the UEFA Champions League, comes in the year that the English Premier League giants re-visit Vancouver. We look forward to seeing Whitecaps FC take on Manchester City at Empire Field this summer."
On Monday, July 18, Whitecaps FC will host Manchester City FC on Bell Pitch at Empire Field at 7 p.m. PT, as part of the 2011 World Football Challenge.
