Martin Rennie speaks about MLS Combine and SuperDraft

With the 2012 Major League Soccer (MLS) schedule behind us, all eyes have now shifted to sunny Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and the kickoff of the MLS Players Combine. Players hoping to land a contract with an MLS club have been paired up into four teams, and will participate in a round-robin tournament beginning today and finishing up on Tuesday, just prior to Thursday’s SuperDraft.

The Combine and the SuperDraft will both be a first for Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie, who sat down with club ambassador Carl Valentine to discuss his strategy for selecting players.

Having the second selection in both the first and second rounds of the SuperDraft, Whitecaps FC have a strong chance of adding some talented young players to the roster, including this year’s ten Generation adidas players.

With the SuperDraft less than a week away, a number of mock drafts have begun to surface. Many predict that the first pick may go to the Jamaican-born striker and University of Akron alumni Darren Mattocks. Mattocks takes to the pitch with his team Prime teammates in today’s live streamed match-up against team adiPower. In case you miss it, you can catch all of the scheduled matches streamed live HERE.
