‘Caps Chronicle: High Five!

Only 5 days to First Kick!

WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS:

It's exactly ‘five’ days until the season opener against Montreal Impact on March 10th at BC Place, so to add to the excitement we'll be doing a countdown themed ‘Caps Chronicle for each day leading up to First Kick. Let’s take a look at the number ‘five’.

Being the ‘fifth’ of March, today is the perfect day to kick off a number ‘five’ themed Chronicle. While the number on its own doesn’t occupy any of Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s player’s jerseys, Argentine centre back Martin Bonjour provides triple the fun with number ‘fifteen’. Fellow defender Jay DeMerit recently offered his opinion of the newcomer, “Martin has fantastic defensive qualities. He's tough in the tackle, he's aggressive and he'll complement me. If I'm staying with the quick guys, Martin can be more of a physical presence with the big forwards in our league.” (Marc Weber – The Province)

One person who's keen on the 'Caps season opener is basketball player extraordinaire and Whitecaps FC co-owner Steve Nash. The number ‘five’ is particularly noteworthy for Nash, having received the NBA's Most Valuable Player Award for both the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons. The Phoenix Suns captain tweeted about Whitecaps First Kick earlier today, "Countdown is on...fired up for March 10 Whitecaps FC home opener - who will be at BC Place?!" (Steve Nash via Twitter)

Whitecaps FC's Designated Player Barry Robson has taken a shining to the number ‘five’. His nine goals and ‘five’ assists in league and cup matches for Middlesbrough this season have helped the team climb to ‘fifth’ atop the npower Championship table. MLSsoccer.com’s Greg Lalas is one reporter who can’t wait to see him in Blue and White, writing, “If Robson is on similar form when he joins the Whitecaps, who already boast some impressive firepower... he could be the integral midfield piece to drive them into the playoffs... Hell, at this rate, he might be the driving force to help them finish atop the Western Conference.” (Greg Lalas – MLSsoccer.com)
