'Caps set to kick off biggest showcase in Western Canada

Details are now set for both the girls and boys 2012 Whitecaps FC College Showcase.

Over 70 teams and more than 80 colleges and universities will take part in the largest showcase in Western Canada, with many teams from across the country and several from the United States convening at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey, BC.

This will be the third edition of the girls showcase, with this year’s event taking place from March 17 to 19, and the first edition of the boys showcase, on from March 23 to 25. Some of the top schools from Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) in Canada and from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States will be on hand to scout the action each weekend. With every U-15 to U-17/18 team from the EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League, plus several provincial champions and national medalists, this year’s college showcases promise to deliver two exciting weekends.

In addition to tournament action, the girls showcase will feature the Whitecaps FC U-18 Girls Elite squad taking on University of the Fraser Valley on Saturday, March 17, at 1 p.m.  PT. The boys showcase, meanwhile, will include the Whitecaps FC U-14 Residency squad playing in the U-15 division, while the U-18 and U-16 Residency matches in the United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) will also be featured as part of the festivities, with the U-18 team taking on De Anza Force U-17/18 at 11:30 a.m. PT and the U-16 team taking on De Anza Force U-15/16 at 2 p.m. PT.
