WHITECAPS FC IN THE NEWS:

According to Whitecaps FC captain Jay DeMerit, the ‘Caps showed their “bouncebackability” in their last match against FC Dallas. Find out what he means in his latest blog post where he also shares his experience playing footie with Coldplay at BC Place, and honours his friend Patrick Grange who recently lost his battle with ALS. Omar Salgado was a big part of the team’s “bouncebackability” after getting his first taste as a starter this season against FC Dallas. Now the prodigious youngster is hoping his patience and hard work will translate into even more opportunities. “Martin Rennie has really given me confidence starting me this Saturday,” Salgado said following practice. “I have to respect that and give him my all, and fight for him. You have to work hard, and when the game comes, give it your all – you have to use that opportunity to show you belong there.” (Martin MacMahon – MLSsoccer.com)

The question has been raised about Saturday’s road match against Columbus whether it can really be considered an away game with so many Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Michael Nanchoff supporters in the crowd. “You have no idea how long I have been waiting for this,” the Whitecaps FC midfielder told reporters about returning to his native Ohio state. “My only word to explain it is ecstatic. There will be people from all over coming not only to hopefully see me play, but cheer on the Whitecaps and I think it will feel like a home away from home.” (Irfaan Gaffar – Sportsnet)

Another member of the squad who’s eager to return to the lineup is ‘Caps left fullback Alain Rochat. After completing his first full training with the team on Wednesday he’s counting down the days until he’s fully back in action. (Bruce Constantineau – Vancouver Sun)

Su nombre es Bryce Alderson, and according to his latest blog entry he's trying to learn Spanish. “Back home, I have a bunch of friends who speak Spanish, and of course their families speak it too, so whenever I'm over at their houses I can never understand anything,” writes Whitecaps FC’s homegrown midfielder. “Because of that, I've always wanted to learn it.” Buena Suerte Bryce!
