Vancouver Whitecaps FC Elite Girls are in action on Sunday in Metro Women’s Soccer League (MWSL) Cup play. They face West Coast FC Kerrisdale in their first game of group play.

The 'Caps finished their regular season in the women’s league last weekend with a 3-3 draw against Columbus FC. It was a slow paced game until the final ten minutes, when the two sides exploded for six combined goals.

Whitecaps FC Girls Elite head coach Jesse Symons took some positives out of the game, but felt his team looked flat in their final game of the season.

“We kept the ball well, but we didn’t really create many opportunities and can definitely look at that and discuss that going forward over the next few weeks,” Symons told Beacon News following the game.

Margaret Hadley tied the game 1-1, while Summer Clarke scored the two following goals.

Despite the draw, the 'Caps’ girls finished their first season in first place - playing against adults in the women’s league - with a record of 10W-1L-2D.

Their one loss this year was a defaulted game early in the season when the team did not have enough players available to compete.

The ‘Caps opponents on Sunday, West Coast FC Kerrisdale finished the season 2W-10L-1D.

The two sides played in the first game of the season with Whitecaps FC dominating West Coast 12-0.

The game is scheduled for noon Sunday at Montgomery West field located Montgomery Street and 45th Avenue in Vancouver.

Following the game against West Coast, the girls face a tough test the following week against NSGSC Renegades, a team that went 8W-3L-2D this season.

The two teams met twice in the regular season, with the Girls Elite squad taking the first meeting 5-2 and following up with a 4-1 victory two months later.

The Renegades are scheduled to play CMFSC Xtreme on Sunday.
