Whitecaps FC prospects loaned to Charleston Battery
VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that midfielder Ben Fisk and defender/midfielder Emmanuel Adjetey from the club’s United Soccer Leagues (USL) Premier Development League (PDL) roster have joined USL Pro side Charleston Battery on season-long loans. Adjetey will join pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and visa.
“Ben has been one of the top young players we have had come through our Residency program and Emmanuel is a raw talent who we are interested in seeing further development,” said Martin Rennie, Whitecaps FC head coach. “Playing minutes is vital for both of these young players. They are in a great environment with the Charleston Battery organization, so we’re really excited to see how they progress.”
Charleston kicked off their regular season this past Saturday, April 13, away to Richmond Kickers. Fisk came on as a halftime substitute and played the final 45 minutes in a 4-1 defeat.
Fisk, 20, joined the Whitecaps FC Residency program in August 2010 after being a member of the club’s Prospects program. Last season, the 5-foot-10, 165-pound winger was named to the PDL’s All-Western Conference Team after registering four goals and one assist in 11 league appearances for Whitecaps FC’s U-23 side. Fisk was also a key member of the ’Caps United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) side that made it to the championship match, finishing the year with 14 goals in 32 appearances.
Internationally, the native of Vancouver, BC, has represented Canada at the U-18 and U-20 levels.
Adjetey, 24, joined Whitecaps FC’s MLS side for preseason training in February and played in three preseason matches, as well as one reserve match. The 5-foot-7, 155-pound outside back signed with Vancouver’s U-23 USL PDL side on Tuesday, April 9, from International Allies FC of Ghana’s Division One League.
Prior to joining International Allies, Adjetey played for Ghana Premier League sides Liberty Professionals from 2011 to 2012 and Ashanti Gold SC from 2005 to 2011. From 2001 to 2005, Adjetey was a member of AshGold’s youth system.
The native Accra, Ghana, was also a member of Ghana’s U-17 national team in 2005.
