Vancouver Whitecaps FC announce 2014-15 U-16 Residency roster

18 players return, 5 new players join ‘Caps Residency

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today the club’s 2014-15 U-16 Residency roster for the upcoming United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) season.

“We have a balanced group,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Rich Fagan. “I am very excited about the returning players and new additions to the U-16 team, and the season ahead. Several players have been promoted from the Pre-Residency program and several more are completely new to the club - the perfect ingredients for a competitive environment.”

This year’s roster features 17 of the 23 players from within British Columbia. Returning are 18 players who played for the ‘Caps in the USSDA last season. Five players are joining the U-16 squad after being a part of the Pre-Residency team last season: Nicolas Apostol, Michael Baldisimo, Nathan Graziano, Christopher Guerreiro, and Brendan Skinner.

Pre-Residency graduated players Jonas Hakkinen, Noah Verhoeven and Terrell Smith, who trained and made appearances for the U-16 ‘Caps last year, will join the side on a full-time basis for the upcoming season.

Five new players join the Residency program after playing in their respective hometowns. Frazer Poulter, a Vancouver, BC native, comes to Whitecaps FC after playing two seasons in the Peterborough United FC youth system. Edmonton, Alberta natives Gloire Amanda and Dory Elliot join by way of FC Edmonton and Edmonton Internazionale, respectively, while Ontario boys Duwayne Ewart and Munir Saleh come on board via Ajax Soccer Club and Kitchener Spirit.

Nine players on the U-16 roster have taken part in the BC Soccer Provincial Development program, including: Matthew Baldisimo, Terran Campbell, Kadin Chung, Thomas Gardner, Nathan Graziano, John Kasper, Cole Morokhovich, Frazer Poulter, and Brendan Skinner.

The ‘Caps will kick off their fourth USSDA regular season with a match against Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders FC U-16 on September 13, followed by a contest with San Juan Soccer Club on September 14.

As part of the Whitecaps FC Residency program, players will be given evolving developmental objectives and will be challenged daily across all four corners of player development (technical, tactical, mental, and physical). Each player will be provided the necessary support and guidance from the club to nurture their talent and maximize their potential. Among the developmental objectives for U-16 players are call-ups to the U-18 Residency team and to Canadian youth national teams.
