VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Saturday midfielder Andrés Cubas has been called up to the Paraguayan men's national team for a pair of international friendlies in June.
Paraguay will face Japan in the first friendly on Thursday, June 2 at Sapporo Dome in Sapporo, Japan and will then visit South Korea on Friday, June 10 at Suwon World Cup Stadium in Suwon, South Korea.
Following the match against the Taegeuk Warriors, the midfielder will arrive in Vancouver on June 11, ahead of the club's trip to battle Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders FC on June 14.
Cubas, 26, has represented Paraguay at the international level nine times since 2020, making seven starts in World Cup Qualifying, Copa America and friendly competition. Being a dual national with Argentinean citizenship, Cubas previously played for Argentina at the U-20 level, where he started two of his three appearances for the side at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand
The product of Argentinean club Boca Juniors' famed youth academy joined Vancouver as a Designated Player on April 28, signing a contract through June 2026, with a club option for the final six months of 2026.
