VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Andrés Cubas has been called up to Paraguay's men’s national team roster for tonight's international friendly against Mexico at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Designated Player will return to Vancouver on Thursday to join up with the team ahead of the club's away match against San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday, September 4.
Despite being born in Argentina, Cubas has represented Paraguay at the international level 11 times since 2020, making nine starts in World Cup Qualifying, Copa America and friendly competition. Cubas previously played for Argentina at the U-20 level, where he started two of his three appearances for the side at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
Cubas has started 13 of his 14 appearances across all competitions during his first season with Whitecaps FC, recording the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win against Los Angeles FC on July 2.
