Julian Gressel named to MLS Team of the Week

Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Julian Gressel was named to the MLS Team of the Week on Monday for his performance in the 'Caps 2-1 home Seattle Sounders FC during Week 32.

The 28-year-old German scored his first goal in front of the BC Place faithful on Saturday night, striking a beautiful one-time volley in the 37th minute which would prove to be the game winner.

The mid-season signing also recorded five successful duels and 16 passes in the final third.

Gressel becomes the 10th 'Caps player to be named to the Team of the Week this season, joining goalkeepers Thomas Hasal (Week 2, Week 26) and Isaac Boehmer (Week 21), defenders Tristan Blackmon (Week 5) and Ranko Veselinović (Week 24), wingback Cristian Dájome (Week 20), midfielder Andrés Cubas (Week 15, Week 18), attacking midfielders Ryan Gauld (Week 6, Week 20, Week 23, Week 26) and Pedro Vite (Week 31), and forward Lucas Cavallini (Week 12, Week 14).

The 'Caps will continue their playoff push when they host their final home match of the season on Saturday, October 1 when they host Austin FC during Fan Appreciation at BC Place.
