In this edition of 'Quality Time' presented by GE Appliances, Vancouver Whitecaps FC goalkeeper Isaac Boehmer shares his favourite spots in Vancouver, his excitement for the future of the club, and his experience in Vancouver so far.

We have a really strong group and we all want to push one another to be better goalkeepers. We all believe that Youssef can take us further in our careers and I’m really excited for the year to come!

Describe what it’s like to play at BC Place.

The feeling is surreal. The fans are amazing and they really make you want to play your best for the city.

Describe what it’s like to sing ‘Stand By Me’ with the fans after wins at BC Place

It’s incredible to see everyone come together to celebrate us. It’s really special to be able to have that moment with the fans.

Who’s been your best mentor during your career?

Throughout my career, my best mentor has been Russell Teibert. Seeing how he works day in and day out has showed me how to be a true professional and leader.

What’s your favourite moment of your career with the ‘Caps so far?

My favourite moment so far was my first start in Portland, and making the MLS Team of the Week.

What are you most looking forward to in 2024?

I am so excited to get in front of the fans at BC Place and play for them. I think this is going to be an exciting year and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me.

Tell us what it’s like to be a part of the club’s goalkeeper union.

We have a really strong group and we all want to push one another to be better goalkeepers. We all believe that Youssef can take us further in our careers and I’m really excited for the year to come!

Who’s a goalkeeper, past or present, that you’ve idolized during your career?

I’ve always idolized Manuel Neuer, since I can first remember watching soccer. I’ve been very fortunate to have great goalkeepers around the club throughout my career that have really helped shape my game.

What is one thing outside of football you are really interested in?

I am really interested in farming. My fiancée and I hope to buy a farm one day and have lots of animals. To be able to fully know where all of my food comes from, and to teach my kids one day all of the life lessons and work that comes with a farm is really important to me.

Is there a favourite spot you have in mind for the city? Could be a restaurant, park, shop or place?

My favourite restaurant is Black and Blue, but I only go there on special occasions. Otherwise, I really enjoy going to coffee shops or a local pool hall.

What is one thing you haven’t done yet in Vancouver but want to do soon?

I really want to do a sea plane tour of Vancouver. I’m not a big fan of flying on small planes, but our city is just so beautiful and I think it would be really fun!

Who’s one celebrity you’d most like to meet?

I’d like to be able to meet George Strait, he’s a legend and I love his music. I think he would have some really cool life stories!

What do you love most about Vancouver?

What I love most about Vancouver is how beautiful it can be. I like to take my electric scooter around the seawall all the way to Stanley Park and Kitsilano Beach.

What’s your favourite genre of music?

My favourite genres are country and Christian music.

Who’s your favourite music artist?

My favourite music artist is Zach Bryan. I went to see his show in 2022 after being a fan of his for years, and it was amazing. The way he can pull a crowd together is insane, it was a really good night.

What’s your favourite movie?

My favourite movies are the Lord of the Rings ones. My favourite character is Aragorn. He’s a true leader and he never gives up hope.
