BIOGRAPHYPROFILEA talented defender that came through the Whitecaps Prospects program to become part of the Residency squad, Jack Cubbon can play either as a centre back or as a fullback. The North Vancouver, BC, native has represented British Columbia at youth level in recent years. WHITECAPS FC RESIDENCY–USL PDL 2009: Cubbon made his PDL debut when he started at left fullback during the 1-1 home draw versus Tacoma Tide on June 6. The defender started nine of his 13 PDL appearances during his rookie season. 2010: Cubbon started the PDL season opener at local rivals Victoria Highlanders FC, as the Residency team fell to a 3-2 defeat on May 8. VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC RESIDENCY 2008-09: Cubbon started all five of the Residency team's friendly matches during their 12-day tour of Japan in Dec. 2008. As part of the squad's backline, the defender played his part in leading the side to five-straight victories in the Far East nation. At Dallas Cup XXX, the defender made a late substitute appearance in the 4-1 Bracket C victory over Mexico's Club Futbol Monterrey on Apr. 5. In May 2009, Cubbon started all four friendly matches during the Residency team's two-week trip to Germany. This included starts against the U-19 Junior Bundesliga sides of FC Energie Cottbus (May 23), Hansa Rostock (May 26), and Hertha Berlin (May 27). The midfielder also appeared in the 2009 INSEL-CUP junior international tournament in Germany. 2009-10: Cubbon started all five friendly matches of the Residency team's two-week trip to Spain in Nov. 2009. This included a 2-2 draw against the U-18 side of Club Atlético de Madrid on Nov. 4 and the 2-0 victory over the U-18 side of Spanish and European giants Real Madrid Club de Fútbol on Nov. 11. In the spring of 2010, Cubbon started all three of the Residency team's matches at Dallas Cup XXXI. Drawn in Bracket D of the U-19 Super Group, Cubbon faced Germany's Eintracht Frankfurt (Mar. 28), United States national team (91/92 - Mar. 29), and Mexico national team (Mar. 31) as a centre back. He also started the 1-1 friendly draw with Germany's TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Apr. 3. In May 2010, Cubbon appeared in every match and scored a goal during the Residency team's two-week trip to Germany. This included all four games in the Stemwede International U-19 Youth Tournament and two friendly wins over SuS Holzhausen on May 24 and JFV Jung-Elstern U-19's on May 26. WHITECAPS PROSPECTS In Sept. 2008, Cubbon joined the Whitecaps Delta Prospects Academy after being a member of the club's Prospects program in 2007. In March 2008, the defender scored one goal in four appearances at the Las Vegas College Showcase with the Whitecaps U-16 Prospects team. YOUTH/AMATEUR Cubbon played youth soccer with Squamish United from 2000 to 2005. In 2004, he was a member of the North Shore side that won the British Columbia U-13 Intra Provincial League championship title. He then joined North Shore Selects in 2005 and eventually became captain of the club's U-16 team in the 2007-08 season. He was also part of the British Columbia provincial team program from the U-13 to U-16 levels. The defender earned a silver medal at the Canadian U-14 All-Star Championships in 2006 before captaining BC's Western Canada Summer Games team and his province's U-15 side on a tour of England in 2007. He was also captain of BC's U-16 side in 2008. Cubbon also developed his skills with the North Shore Soccer Development Centre from 2003 to 2005, while he was also a member of the Roman Tulis European Soccer School of Excellence during the 2005-06 season. Cubbon was also a member of the National Training Centre (British Columbia region) program in 2007 and 2008. PERSONAL As part of the Residency program, Cubbon attends Burnaby Central Secondary School after starting the school year at North Delta Secondary School in Delta, BC. From 2005 to 2008, Cubbon was a student at Handsworth Secondary School in North Vancouver, BC. He also attended Garibaldi Highlands Elementary School in Squamish, BC, between 1998 and 2005. His parents are Joan and Paul Cubbon. He also has two sisters named Kelly and Marcia.
