BIOGRAPHY | STATISTICS
BIOGRAPHYPROFILEA talented young goalkeeper with international experience at the U-17 level, Richard Causton joined the Residency program in the summer of 2009 after an impressive youth career that included three British Columbia provincial championship titles. WHITECAPS FC RESIDENCY–USL PDL 2010: Causton made his PDL debut in the 3-2 defeat at local rivals Victoria Highlanders FC on May 8 before starting the 3-3 home draw versus Abbotsford Mariners on May 14. VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC RESIDENCY 2009-10: Causton started all five friendly matches of the Residency team's two-week trip to Spain in Nov. 2009. This included a 2-2 draw with the U-18 side of Club Atlético de Madrid on Nov. 4 and a clean sheet in the 2-0 victory over the U-18 side of Spanish and European giants Real Madrid Club de Fútbol on Nov. 11. In the spring of 2010, the goalkeeper played the first half of a 1-1 friendly draw versus Germany's TSG 1899 Hoffenheim at Dallas Cup XXXI on Apr. 3. The goalkeeper then appeared in two matches during the Residency team's two-week trip to Germany in May 2010. He played in the 5-0 defeat to Germany's Hannover 96 during the Stemwede International U-19 Youth Tournament on May 22 before appearing in the 5-1 friendly win over SuS Holzhausen on May 24. INTERNATIONAL U-17: In Nov. 2008, Causton was called up to Sean Fleming's Canadian U-17 national team squad for a camp in Mexico. He was later selected to Canada's 20-player squad for the 2009 CONCACAF U-17 Championship. The Coquitlam, BC, native started all three of Canada's matches in Group A in Tijuana, Mexico. They earned a 1-1 draw with Honduras before falling to the USA and Cuba. YOUTH/AMATEUR Causton was a long-time member of the Lower Mainland youth powerhouse Coquitlam Metro Ford Dynamo, as they won three BC provincial championship titles during his tenure with the team. The goalkeeper was also a member of the BC provincial team program at the U-14 and U-16 levels. PERSONAL Causton attended Baker Drive Elementary before moving on to Hillcrest Middle School in Coquitlam, BC. He was then a student at Heritage Woods Secondary School in Port Moody, BC, for two-and-a-half years before attending Burnaby Central Secondary School as part of the Residency program. His parents are Sandy and Douglas Causton. He also has three siblings named Tracy, Jennifer, and Lynzie. |
