Career Summary

A creative playmaker with a wealth of experience, midfielder Mauro Rosales first joined Whitecaps FC midway through the 2014 MLS season after spending the first half of the year with Chivas USA. He was traded to FC Dallas prior to the 2016 season, then rejoined Whitecaps FC in 2017. Before joining Chivas, Rosales spent his first three seasons in MLS with Seattle Sounders FC, where he recorded 12 goals and 34 assists in 86 matches, leaving as the club's all-time MLS assist leader. Before coming to North America, the 5-foot-8 South American played for Argentina powerhouses Club Atletico River Plate (2007-10) and Newell’s Old Boys (1999-2004), as well as top-flight Dutch side AFC Ajax (2004-07). On November 27, 2017, Whitecaps FC announced that the club will not exercise the option on his contract.

 

WHITECAPS FC
2017:
Rosales was a key presence in the Whitecaps FC locker room in his second stint with the club, while also making five substitute appearances in the regular season. He also started both legs of the Canadian Championship semifinal series versus Montreal Impact. 2014-15: In his first stint with Whitecaps FC, Rosales made 36 appearances, scored one goal, and added six assists in all competitions in a season and half.

 

FC DALLAS
2016: Rosales helped FC Dallas to their first US Open Cup and MLS Supporters' Shield in 2016, starting five of 25 MLS appearances, scoring two goals and added four assists. Rosales also started the U.S. Open Cup final and added two assists in three appearances in the CONCACAF Champions League.

 

CHIVAS USA

2014: Prior to coming to Vancouver, Rosales recorded eight starts with the Los Angeles, California-based club while starting 16 of his 21 appearances.

 

SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC

2013: During his third season in MLS, Morales played in a career high 33 matches, making 26 starts while scoring four goals and recording eight assists. In the playoffs, the midfielder made two substitute appearances in the Western Conference finals against Portland Timbers. 2012: The Argentine tied his career high with 13 assists in the regular season, adding three goals while starting 25 of his 27 appearances. The experienced midfielder made two appearances during the 2012 MLS Cup playoffs. 2011: Named MLS Newcomer of the year during his first season in the league. Scored a career high five goals while finishing third in MLS with 13 assists.

 

ARGENTINA

2007-2010: Played four seasons for powerhouse Club Atletico River Plate. 1999-2004: Began his professional career with top Argentine club Newell’s Old Boys.

 

NETHERLANDS

2004-2007: Spent three seasons with prestigious Dutch club AFC Ajax. 

 

INTERNATIONAL

At the international level, Rosales was a part of Argentina's U-20 national team that won the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship and the U-23 side that won a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
