PROFILE

A promising goalkeeper who first earned a call-up to Whitecaps FC's men's team during the 2008 USL-1 season, Simon Thomas has developed into a dependable shot-stopper since joining the 'Caps inaugural Residency squad in the summer of 2007. The Victoria, BC, native returned to Whitecaps FC on February 25, 2013 after a season in England with Huddersfield Town.

<strong>MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER</strong><br>


<strong>2013:&nbsp;</strong>Thomas officially signed with the club on&nbsp;February 25, 2013. He has yet to make an appearance for the &#39;Caps at the MLS level.&nbsp;<br>

<strong>MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER RESERVES LEAGUE</strong><br>


<strong>2013:&nbsp;</strong>The young Canadian has gone undefeated in the three games he has started in Reserves play: a 6-1 win over Trinity Western University on April 2, a 1-1 draw versus the University of Washington on April 16 and a 1-1 draw &nbsp;against Portland Timbers Reserves on May 19. He also kept a clean sheet &nbsp;versus the University of Victoria after coming on at the start of the second half for Brad Knighton on March 16, the &#39;Caps won that match 3-0.&nbsp;<br>

<strong>FOOTBALL LEAGUE ONE</strong><br>


<strong>2011-12: </strong>Thomas signed a one-year contract with League One side Huddersfield Town, but did not make any first team appearances as the team won promotion to the Championship.&nbsp;<br>

<strong>UNITED SOCCER LEAGUES FIRST DIVISION</strong><br>


<strong>2008:</strong> After helping Whitecaps FC Residency to the PDL semi-finals in their first-ever season in the league, Thomas was one of four Residency players to be called up to the Whitecaps men&#39;s team for the remainder of the USL-1 season on Aug. 14. Despite dressing for several matches for the &lsquo;Caps, the youngster did not appear for the first team. &nbsp; &nbsp;<br>

<strong>UNITED SOCCER LEAGUES PREMIER DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE</strong><br>


<strong>2008:</strong> Thomas was instrumental in helping the Residency squad reach the PDL semifinals in their inaugural season in the league. He recorded nine wins and four defeats during the campaign, while earning five clean sheets and a goals-against-average of 1.000. The keeper also started the PDL Western Conference playoff victories over San Fernando Valley Quakes and Tacoma Tide in Fresno, California in late July, as well as the semifinal defeat to eventual champions Thunder Bay Chill in Northern Ontario on Aug. 2.<br>

<strong>VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC RESIDENCY</strong><br>


<strong>2007-08: </strong>Thomas joined the inaugural Residency squad after playing under head coach Bart Choufour with the Whitecaps BCSA U-18 Prospects team in 2007. He faced 1860 Munich and VfB Stuttgart U-19&#39;s during the team&#39;s first trip to Germany in October of that year. In Mar. 2008, the keeper started two matches in Bracket C of the U-19 Super Group at Dallas Cup XXIX. They included the 1-0 defeat to Portuguese giants Benfica on Mar. 16 and the 3-3 draw versus German club Eintracht Frankfurt on Mar. 19. A week later, Thomas started the 2-1 friendly win over English club Leicester City at the Dallas Cup before helping the Residency side win the 2008 Keg Spring Cup in Victoria, BC, soon after the team&#39;s return home from Texas. The keeper was also part of the Residency&#39;s second trip to Germany, having started the 2-1 friendly win over SV Stuttgarter Kickers U-19&#39;s on April 30 before playing a pivotal role in helping the team finish third at the INSEL-CUP junior international tournament.<br>

<strong>YOUTH/AMATEUR</strong><br>


Thomas played for the Victoria United U-18 Metro team, and in 2006, he was a member of the British Columbia U-16 provincial team. In 2004, the keeper guided Victoria United Metro to a BC provincial championship title, while at the end of the 2002-03 season, Thomas was awarded the Lower Vancouver Island Metro/Select Director&rsquo;s Award, which is given to the goalkeeper who has showed the most talent, dedication, and potential. &nbsp;&nbsp;<br>


&nbsp;<br>


<strong>INTERNATIONAL &nbsp;</strong><br>


Started an international friendly for Canada men&#39;s national team against the United States and earned a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw on January 26, 2013. Was called up by Canada for the 2013 Gold Cup; he was a part of the 18 man roster for all three group games but did not see any action.&nbsp;<br>

<strong>PERSONAL</strong><br>


Before joining Whitecaps FC Residency, Thomas was a student at Oak Bay High School in Victoria, BC, where he also played in goal for the school&#39;s senior boys soccer team.<br>
