Bayern Munich edge Residency 2-1

Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich’s U-19 Junior Bundesliga team on Monday. In the first game of their two-week trip to Germany, Thomas Niendorf’s side were involved in an evenly-contested match against their hosts from Bayern, and even took a one-goal lead into halftime after a well-taken strike by Randy Edwini-Bonsu (pictured) on the half-hour mark.Bayern’s starting XI, which included seven German youth internationals, were more threatening in attack in the second half and managed to equalize on 55 minutes before claiming a second goal four minutes from the end to win Monday’s friendly.Despite the defeat, Whitecaps Residency will be extremely encouraged to have competed against a youth side from one of Europe’s top professional clubs. The Residency’s next game of their German tour is on Tuesday when they face the U-19 Junior Bundesliga side from 1860 Munich. On Thursday, Niendorf’s squad take on the U-19 Junior Bundesliga team of Jahn Regensburg before meeting VfB Stuttgart’s U-19 Junior Bundesliga side on Saturday.
