1. He was a striker with Iceland's national team from 1972-85. He was capped 41 times and scored nine goals.
- He received a medal from the president of Estonia in 2000 for his help developing the game as national team coach from 1996-99. No. 135 in FIFA rankings in February, 1996; No.70 in December, 1999.
- Thordarson said that Estonia only had 20 men's players with passports when he arrived, due in part to problems with Russia. Estonia only gained its independence in 1991.
- Younger brother Olafur, 42, coaches Fram Reykjavik in Iceland. Olafur played for Iceland vs. Estonia when Teitur was coaching in 1996.
- Canadian women's team coach Even Pellerud succeeded Thordarson at Lillestrom of the Norway men's premier league in 1996.
