Boys Prospects in Showcase semis

Vancouver Whitecaps U-16 Boys Prospects are in the semifinals of the 2008 Las Vegas College Showcase after an 8-2 win over San Ramon Strike Force on Saturday evening.Needing three-goal victory to reach the semis in Nevada, Bart Chorfour's side made an excellent start after Coulton Jackson found the back of the San Ramon net after just three minutes. The following 10 minutes, however, saw the California club come back into the contest with a few chances before the Strike Force equalized with a far-post header. The Whitecaps restored their advantage by halftime, as Scott Medley and Jerome Lou made it 3-1 at the break.Medley found the back of the net again shortly after the restart before he set up Jackson for his second goal of the evening, as Vancouver ran out to a 5-1 lead. San Ramon then made it 5-2 after momentary lapse in the Whitecaps back-line.Undeterred, Ryan Dhillon made it 6-2 before Medley completed the rout with his third and fourth goals of the game.A favourable result in the other Group D game between Chicago Kickers and FC Sacramento Rangers meant the Whitecaps advanced to the semifinals on goal difference. Choufour's team now face a Sunday morning clash with northern California club Placer United Prestige for a place in the College Showcase final.
