Whitecaps Boys fall in Showcase semis

Vancouver Whitecaps U-16 Boys Prospects lost 1-0 to Placer United Prestige in their semifinal clash at the 2008 Las Vegas College Showcase.Howling winds affected the playing conditions during the Sunday morning contest, with Whitecaps head coach Bart Choufour without the services of Erik Hacker and Callum Irving though injury. The only goal of the game came after four minutes, as one of the Placer United strikers got a free header at the far post to convert into the top corner of the Whitecaps goal.Despite having the wind at their backs, Vancouver were unable to turn their dominant play into a goal, as a well-organized Placer United defense remained determined not to be scored on, as they have not been all tournament.Even against the wind in the second half, the Whitecaps could not turn their possession into an equalizer, as the final pass proved not as accurate as required. Their last chance came with five minutes to go, as Coulton Jackson got in behind the stubborn Placer United defense on the left, but his shot cleared the crossbar.
