'Caps re-sign 2007 leading scorer

Vancouver Whitecaps FC have announced the re-signing of striker Eduardo Sebrango to a one-year contract. Sebrango, a nine-year veteran of the United Soccer Leagues First Division (USL-1), will be returning for his fourth year in Vancouver.

Last year, Sebrango earned the club’s Domenic Mobilio Golden Boot Award after leading all goal-scorers with seven. This despite missing 12 regular season games due to injury. The six-foot-one, 180-pound forward also led the team in game-winning-goals with three. In 2006, the native of Sancti Spiritus, Cuba was acquired from the Montreal Impact in a preseason trade and was a key contributor to the Whitecaps USL-1 championship run that season. Sebrango went on to score the series-clinching goal against Montreal in the semifinals.

From 2002 to 2005, Sebrango helped the Impact to two regular-season titles and the 2004 championship. Prior to joining the Impact, Sebrango played with the now-defunct Hershey Wildcats in 2001 and Rochester Rhinos in 2000. His first stint with Vancouver was in 1999.

Before suiting up in the USL, Sebrango played in Cuba with FC Sancti Spiritus and in 1997, he was named Cuban Player of the Year. Sebrango also played for the Cuban national team in the 1998 CONCACAF Gold Cup and in qualifying for the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
