The Whitecaps will definitely have some future senior national team stars on display. Among them:

  • Forward Jodi-Ann Robinson, 19, who's got one foot on the senior team and another on the U-20 squad. One of the most dynamic one-on-one players in the national team pool, the former high school sprint champion from Richmond was the Canadian Youth Player of the Year (female) in 2006.
  • Midfielder Monica Lam-Feist, 17, of Surrey, who's just getting into the U-20 pool but is expected to be a big part of the team's bid to qualify for the FIFA Women's U-20 World Cup in Chile in November. Lam-Feist is still in Grade 11, but Birarda calls the former captain of the under-17 national team "the best player in the country in her age group."

"I'm really excited to see the season and how it's going to go," says Lam-Feist, a former national Tae Kwon Do champion from South Surrey. "I know I need to work on playing quicker and getting bigger physically."

  • Forward Julie Armstrong, 18, of Ladner, who already has seven caps with the senior team and scored a goal in her fourth game, a 2-1 win over Russia in March. © The Vancouver Province 2008
