Whitecaps spoil Force's opener - The Coloradoan

LOVELAND — Jonelle Filigno, a 17-year-old high school senior and member of the Canadian National Team, shouldered in a shot off a corner kick at the end of the first half tonight to lead the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 1-0 win over the Fort Collins Force.

Tiffany Milbrett, a member of the United States’ 1996 Olympic gold-medal winning team, provided the corner-kick assist in extra time at the end of the first half to spoil the Force’s home opener before about 400 fans at Loveland Sports Park.

Vancouver, winner of W-League titles in 2004 and ’06, improved to 2-0-2 with the win in its second game in as many nights. The Whitecaps tied Real Colorado 1-1 on Thursday night in Littleton.
