Addlery scores in Vancouver victory - Jamaica Gleaner

CHARLESTON, South Carolina -  Jamaican Nicholas Addlery scored a second-half goal and helped Vancouver Whitecaps beat Charleston Battery 2-0 in their United Soccer Leagues (USL) First Division match Wednesday.

Substitute Addlery struck his goal 15 minutes before the end to ensure the result after Jason Jordan had scored early in the first half of a rainy encounter at Charleston's Blackbaud Stadium.

With the victory, second-placed Vancouver moved up to 16 points and within a point of Charleston in the USL First Division standings.

Jordan opened the scoring on nine minutes when he converted a first-time shot on the near post from a Lyle Martin cross from the right flank.
Beyond doubt
Vancouver put the game beyond doubt in the 75th minute with a good finish from Addlery, who previously played US Major League Soccer (MLS) for DC United.

The 26-year-old Jamaican, who joined Vancouver this year, collected a pass from Tony Donatelli and dribbled into the box. He rounded goalkeeper Keith Wiggans and finished neatly with a right-footed strike, sinking Charleston, who had Trinidadian Randi Patterson and Cuban Lester More in their line-up.
