Vancouver Whitecaps Prospects Men lost their second PCSL game in as many days to Seattle Wolves after a 3-1 setback in Washington State on Sunday evening.
Bart Choufour's side traveled down to the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Washington, looking to bounce back from a 4-0 defeat to the Wolves at Simon Fraser University on Saturday afternoon.
However, Seattle picked up right where they left off on Saturday by taking the lead midway through the first half - thanks to a strike from Clay Walton-House. The goal was good enough for the Wolves to take a one-goal lead to the halftime break.
The second half saw a spirited display from the Whitecaps, as they pressured the Wolves in all areas of the pitch. Despite their best efforts, an equalizing goal remained elusive.
It was the Wolves that doubled their lead on the counter attack, as a fine cross allowed Santa Maria Rivera to place a fine header past Prospects goalkeeper Michael Branion-Calles for a 2-0 lead.
Undeterred, the Whitecaps youngsters responded with a goal of their own. Ian Clark took a pass from midfield on the edge of the Seattle box before slipping a fine through ball to Jordan Casoli, who finished to make it 2-1.
The visitors then had chances to level the game a few minutes later, but substitute Brayden Gant was well stopped by the Wolves goalkeeper after breaking in clear on goal, while fellow substitute Riley Newport was denied by the Seattle keeper after being presented with a one-on-one opportunity.
The Whitecaps would rue their missed opportunities, as Seattle finished the game off with a third goal, as Wolves centre back Dave O'Neill pushed forward and headed home from a Wolves corner for a 3-1 result.
The Prospects Men are still looking for their first PCSL win this season, with Choufour's squad now sitting with a record of 0-5-0 to this stage. Seattle, meanwhile, improved their record to 3-2-1 to move into third place in the Premier Division standings.
The Whitecaps face another difficult test on Tuesday evening, as they travel to Cloverdale Athletic Park to meet league leaders Surrey United. Seattle, meanwhile, will host Kamloops Excel in their next game on Saturday night.
