Whitecaps women extend winning streak - Vancouver Sun

Amy Vermeulen was a stranger to many of her Vancouver Whitecap teammates before Wednesday. She's a lot more familiar with them today after scoring a pair of goals in a 2-1 road victory over the Los Angeles Legends.

The 22-year-old Canadian international scored in the fifth and 17th minutes to give a youthful and inexperienced Whitecaps team confidence beyond their years. While a 77th minute tally by the home side made it interesting, Vancouver managed to hold on for its third-straight win and remain undefeated on the W-League season.

"Amy scoring so early definitely took some of the pressure off," said Whitecaps assistant coach Marc Rizzardo. "Then scoring again so soon after took even more pressure off our younger girls."

Vermeulen joined the club earlier this week and will remain though Vancouver's next three games before rejoining the national team upon its return from World Cup qualifying in Korea.

"When she learned she wouldn't be accompanying the national team, we asked her and she was more than willing to get in some games with us," said Rizzardo. "It's good fitness for her."
