Mauricio Salles scored twice and assisted on another as the Rochester Rhinos defeated the first-place Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0 tonight at PAETEC Park.
Ze Roberto assisted on both goals by Salles, who assisted on a goal by Johnny Menyongar. The Rhinos led 1-0 after the first half and then scored in the 46th minute to take a 2-0 lead. The Rhinos (2-4-4, 10 points) added thier final goal in the 62nd minute.
Scott Vallow made four saves to earn the shutout.
The Rhinos will finish their four-game league homestand next Friday night against the Carolina Railhawks and then host Pittsburgh of the USL Second Division in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup second round match on June 24.
