Canada Championships (Match 2) - Metro

Ben Rycroft

Apparently USL standings mean nothing because last night the ninth place Montreal Impact defeated the first placed Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 in the second match of the Nutrilite Canadian Championships.

The second game for the Impact (1-1-0), having lost to the Toronto FC (1-0-0) in their first game, was won on the back of two first half goals by Joey Gjertsen and Severino Jefferson. Keeper Matt Jordan recorded the clean sheet, stopping 12 shots in the win.

If I was to use fools logic I would deduce that because the Vancouver Whitecaps defeated the LA Galaxy back in May, then the Montreal Impact can defeat the Galaxy. And since David Beckham drew only an assist in that game, Joey Gjertsen and Severino Jefferson are both better players then David Beckham. People like this might agree with that statement. People like this, probably would not. < Just wondering, but is that girl's boyfriend holding the third part of that sign? Uh...sorry pal.

But if I was to use real logic, it seems clear that any team, from any league, can perform on a high enough level, to win on any night in these Championships. And anyone expecting the Toronto FC to waltz through these qualifiers and on to the CONCACAF Champions League without any trouble would be sorely mistaken.

Still, funny how the fools logic and the real logic turned out so similar.
