Whitecaps to play in Prince George

– Vancouver Whitecaps FC, in partnership with the Prince George Youth Soccer Association, the British Columbia Soccer Association and Wendy’s Restaurants announced today that the Whitecaps senior men’s team will be participating in an exhibition match against the Prince George All-Stars on Saturday, July 19, in Prince George, British Columbia. Sponsored by Wendy’s Restaurants, the match is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. kick off at Prince George’s Glen Thompson Field.

"We’re looking forward to bringing the Whitecaps to Prince George," said Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi. "Working with our partner, the British Columbia Soccer Association, we hope to bring the Whitecaps and professional soccer throughout BC."

The Whitecaps currently sit in second place in the 11-team United Soccer Leagues First Division (USL-1) with a record of seven wins, four losses and two draws. Long-time veterans include Canadian internationals Jeff Clarke, Steve Kindel and Martin Nash. All three members were key contributors to the Whitecaps 2006 USL-1 championship season. The match will feature the Whitecaps taking on a compilation of Prince George’s top players.

Tickets will be available for sale at the gates, starting at 11:30 a.m. on match day. Tickets will range from five to ten dollars, while children five and under will get in for free.

Prior to the match, there will be a free Wendy’s Whitecaps Soccer Clinic at 12:15 p.m. for boys and girls ages seven to nine (U-8 to U-10) at Glen Thompson Field. The free clinic will include coaching from Whitecaps players and coaches, as well as an autograph session. Registration is free, but is only available by registration on-line at www.pgysa.bc.ca. Space is limited. Players that are registered and accepted will also receive free entry to the exhibition match.
