'Caps at Surf Cup this weekend

Vancouver Whitecaps U-11 and U-12 Prospects Girls are in action at the prestigious Surf Cup in San Diego, California, this weekend.

The Whitecaps will be facing some of North America's top clubs in an event where no Canadian team has ever won. The Surf Cup is widely recognized as the top youth tournament in North America.

Each age group will contain four groups, allowing for three games each. Group play begins Saturday, culminating with the championship finals on Monday.

The Whitecaps U-11 Girls are in Group C and open against Elk Grove Everton, who are ranked number two in northern California. In Saturday’s second game, the U-11 Girls will battle against Arsenal FC from California South. Arsenal FC are ranked number seven in the United States.

The Whitecaps U-12 Girls have also been drawn in Group C and open against Mustang Fury from California North. The Fury are US Region Four champions and ranked as the number one team in the United States. They follow that up with an afternoon game against Potomac Arsenal, who are the number one ranked team in the US state of Maryland.

On Sunday, the U-12 'Caps complete group play against the defending Surf Cup champions in the So Cal Blues from Southern California.
