BAYAMON, Puerto Rico — The Vancouver Whitecaps missed out on a chance to take the top spot in the USL First Division in a 1-0 loss to rival Puerto Rico Islanders at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium on Friday.
Noah Delgado scored in the 89th minute as Puerto Rico won their first ever league victory over the Whitecaps.
With the win, the Islanders move three points ahead of the Whitecaps and extend their unbeaten streak to nine games. The loss ends the Whitecaps' six-game winning streak.
The win comes after the Islanders upset Costa Rican club Liga Deportiva Alajuelense on Wednesday night to reach the CONCACAF Champions League group stage
