Impact kicks off USL semifinal series at home Friday - The Gazette

The Impact will play the first game of the United Soccer Leagues First Division semifinals at Saputo Stadium, not in Vancouver.

Game 1 of the home-and-away, aggregate goals series with the Vancouver Whitecaps will be held Friday at 8 p.m.

"We received a message from the (Whitecaps) organization very early this morning that they wanted the second game at home," Impact publicist Patrick Vallée said yesterday.

Game 2 will be held Sunday, 6:30 p.m., at Swangard Stadium in Vancouver.

The Whitecaps finished the regular season in second place in the standings, ahead of Montreal, which is why they have the option.

Vancouver advanced to the semifinals by defeating the Minnesota Thunder 5-4 on aggregate, despite losing the return leg of the quarterfinal 4-3.

The Impact eliminated the Seattle Sounders 4-3 on aggregate after beating the defending league champion 3-1 in the second game of its series at Saputo Stadium on Sunday.

The other series has the Rochester Rhinos, who beat Charleston 2-1 on aggregate, playing regular-season champion Puerto Rico, which has a bye through the first round of the playoffs.

Tickets for Friday's game go on sale this morning through admission.com or calling 514-790-1245 (individual tickets), or 514-328-3668 (group tickets).
