Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber said on Friday that Montreal has rescinded its bid for an expansion franchise.
He made the announcement during his annual state-of-the-union address before Sunday's MLS Cup final in Los Angeles.
Montreal was one of seven cities bidding for two expansion franchises that are to join the league in 2011.
"They're out for the next round of expansion," Garber said. "I don't think it's gone forever but it's gone for now."
